***Please note: This ebook edition does not contain the photos found in the print edition.*** In the heart of Indianapolis in the mid 1960's, through a twist of fate and fortune, a pretty young girl came to live with a thirty-seven-year-old mother and her seven children. What began as a temporary childcare arrangement between Sylvia Likens's parents and Gertrude Baniszewski turned into a crime that would haunt cops, prosecutors, and a community for decades to come... When police found Sylvia's emaciated body, with a chilling message carved into her flesh, they knew that she had suffered tremendously before her death. Soon they would learn how many others—including some of Baniszewski's own children—participated in Sylvia's murder, and just how much torture had been inflicted in one HOUSE OF EVIL

The book was fantastic and very informative. The book gives more detail then the movie and explains alot more but yet raises more questions. Its definitely a must read.

You know that feeling when you read a book and you know from the beginning that it's going to have a horrible ending, but you still read it because it's just too interesting ? .
Welcome to House of Evil. It's a horrible story about the life and death of a young girl,Sylvia Likens .
I can't really say the I liked the book , because who likes to read about real life deaths and tortures?

"We on earth don't have a right to take life like that. The first death does not justify the second death."

Sometimes life is not fair. Sometimes you go through hell and back and nothing really changes. Rest In Peace Sylvia Likens .

This book tells the true story of the murder of 16-year-old Sylvia Likens. Sylvia not only died at the hands of her caretaker, but also at the hands of other neighborhood children, ranging from ages 11-18. This is what nightmares are made of, people. Sylvia does not get the justice she deserves, but Dean does a great job of telling HER story.

JulieAnn I watched the movie about this. It was horrible. An American Crime I think it was called. Just horrific and heartbreaking. 7y
Josie @JulieAnn yep, that's what it's called. I'm still on the fence about whether I want to watch it or not. Reading about it was hard enough. 7y
JulieAnn @Josie I bet. When I'm reading something it's often more vivid in my mind than it is onscreen. I did not enjoy watching that but I finished it to see if they were brought to justice. I'm glad her story is being told though. 7y

quirkyreader Sylvia's story always resonated with me. And when that terrible house burned down I rejoiced. 7y
Sweettartlaura If you're interested, there's a fictionalization of this as well. It was harrowing enough for me to never want to know any more details 😥 7y
Bookzombie @Sweettartlaura I agree. I read The Girl Next Door and I still think about it sometimes. 7y
