“Some scientists believe that we‘ve seen fewer than half the large animals living in the sea. If we‘re lucky, we‘ll encounter some of these unknown creatures on our return trip.”

A great book to read to a class when talking about the ocean and different types of animals that live in the ocean. The illustrations are descriptive and easy to examine as well.

Genre: nonfiction
I love how this book “takes you on a journey” throughout the different parts of the ocean. It starts out by explaining the different elements that are above the surface, then gradually gets lower and lower into the ocean, explaining each “zone” and the fish that live there.

“More humans have walked on the moon than visited the deepest spot in the sea.”

This book is cool because it is a larger than the average book.

Down, Down, Down is a nonfiction book written by Steven Jenkins in 2009. This book is one of the most informative children‘s books i‘ve read. It also is really cool to look at because it is dark and made of cool materials.

I love this whole passage!! It really shows the complexity and depth in an ocean and what‘s inside and how much we don‘t know too!

I love the use of this scale to show where the animals are living within the ocean (how deep down) and also what zone they live in. It also includes the temperature and other labels!!

Published in 2009, this nonfiction book includes captions, land and ocean scale, a informational piece for each page, and other information about animals and the ocean. The illustrations are created by cut and torn paper collage which show detail and colors for children to see! The beginning also includes references for the information within! The author includes labels and descriptions on each page for students to read as well.
