Here's one of my biggest questions: why didn't Faber & Faber have a fucking fact checker on Moby's book? Beyond calling Natalie Portman, there are basic dates of events that you can verify with JUST GOOGLE, but no one bothered to 🤦🏻♀️
Kathrin I understand and support freedom of speech, but I think it‘s incredibly that obvious lies can be published. And this is entertainment related... not much harm done... when you think about political or scientific publication, there is real harm. 6y
FreeReadAndWrite @Kathrin all due respect, publishers hire fact checkers on memoirs for a reason - it absolutely does have an effect. The average memoir is going to reach and impact popular culture and beliefs more than anything scientifically published. There's a reason they call academia a bubble (I say as someone who came from academia). 6y
FreeReadAndWrite @Kathrin and all you have to do is look at the conversation on consent and dating as a result of this book to know that. Free speech? Sure. But this literally ignored publishing 101. 6y
Kathrin @FreeReadAndWrite I see what you say. There is still harm in this case too. My point was more, that while they might hire fact checkers, there is way too much unproven out there... on both sides of the political spectrum. 6y
