In the midst of heavy reading, Joan Bauer‘s middle grade books are good palate cleansers. They feature young protagonists who go after what they believe in, and a cast of intriguing supporting characters. Soar features Jeremiah, whose love of baseball knows no bounds. When a high school baseball player dies and the coach is accused of supplying steroids, and the town is on the verge up giving up on baseball, Jer steps up to plate to save the day.

The main protagonist has courage, wit, and is a heart transplant recipient. The plot is fantastic. A town obsessed with winning finds out the high school baseball boys have been pumped full of steroids after one of the boys dies. Jeremiah decides to start a middle school baseball team. Dealing with bullies and negative comments becomes a way of life. Characters-A+ Plot-A+ Writing-A Definite recommendation.

Jeremiah loves baseball, but since his heart transplant, he can no longer run, let alone play baseball ⚾️. So he finds another powerful way to get himself and his Eagles 🦅 back in the game.
