This book is quirky.
The concept of describing what it's like to learn to see for the very first time was fascinating, and I loved the situations this brought up.
The characters are so flawed and scared, they repeatedly make rash decisions that ultimately hurt everyone, especially themselves. I wouldn't say that this is an optimistic book on the topic of relationships, but I said say it's honest.
Not a book I would reread, but it's enjoyable.

A mildly entertaining read that starts well, nicely building tension and intrigue, but seriously flags in the middle & with a wildly exciting (read overblown) ending that seems tacked on from a different novel. The premise is fascinating but slips in terms of realism at points. Characters are borderline annoying - Kate's endless woe depleted my empathy supplies and Nova, a woman in her 30s, read like a just left home fresher & didn't ring true ⬇️

readingjedi Cont. from above. Also the idea that 2 grown women would sleep in a blanket fort in the living room for 6 months? Just no. Little niggles like this put me off a little and thus So-So but I'm perhaps harsh 🤷🏼‍♀️ 6y

Tonight's read with thanks to #netgalley for this book.
Tonight's tipple is alcohol-free mixed berry Kopparberg cider.
Tonight's Yankee Candle fragrance is Vanilla Cupcake - a gift & not one I'd have picked for myself as on cold sniff it's very sweet & cloying. However, there is a nice note of burnt sugar coming through that I really appreciate.

Nova, smart, sassy, confident & blind since birth, is offered surgery to restore her sight. Kate, meanwhile, is beginning to question her marriage.

I found this an absorbing story with great main characters. Their relationship was beautifully drawn, & the early sense of menace in Kate's abusive marriage was almost overwhelming. But there were so many things I just didn't believe, and the big ending had less impact than the quieter storylines.

rockpools Altogether, I found this an uneven but very readable debut, which would have been fantastic to discuss with as a book club. Thanks to #netgalley for an Advance Review Copy of this book. 6y
rockpools I've just read back through the #Booked2018 prompts (only a few months late!). This'll work for #LGBTQIAmc, if I haven't already logged a book for that. @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft 6y

#currentlyreading from #netgalley.

I'm finding this an absorbing read, and I really like the characters. Then the author throws in some detail that I JUST DON'T BELIEVE, and I'm confused all over again.

Pickpick

It‘s taken me a while to review this book as was not sure what to say. There is a lot of content to this book and almost two stories going on at once. I enjoyed the journey of learning to see and definitely made me think differently about something I take for granted. The other story was about relationships. It is worth a read but definitely different
