Challenge 9 of 50: A book about or involving social media

So this book takes a classic story from Greek mythology, the minotaur and labyrinth and re-imagines it with a uniquely 21st century twist. The trial of the labyrinth becomes a yearly reality television event, with an accompanying social media maelstrom. The novel is completely original and imaginative and unlike anything I have ever read before.

I enjoyed this book; I love mythology and was excited to see how she would incorporate that with the modern world. It shed some interesting light on the terribleness of reality tv. With that, I will say that I didn‘t appreciate all the talk of sex and what they tried to make Ariadne into. To be fair, there was nothing graphic. Ithink the relationship between Theseus and Adriadne was sweet. I really enjoyed how everything fell together in the end.

The bastard lovechild of Greek myths & the Kardashians, 'Lifestyles...' takes the story of Areadne, & the Minotaur's labyrinth & brings it forward to an era of cell phones & reality TV. And it works.

The spectacle of Greeks & their love of violence & pageantry translates really well into the voyaristic TV world.

I think you'll enjoy thre book a lot more with a basic knowledge of mythology, but it's weird enough that I'd recommend it for sure.

KarouBlue So excited for this one! 😜 5y
