A Patchwork Planet
A Patchwork Planet | Anne Tyler

Barnaby Gaitlin has less in life than he once had. His ex-wife Natalie left him and their native Baltimore several years ago, taking their baby daughter Opal with her. He acquired an unalterably fixed position as the black sheep of the family. And this family isn't one where black sheep are tolerated. The Gaitlins are rich and worthy, supposedly guided by their own special angel to do the right thing... OVER A MILLION ANNE TYLER BOOKS SOLD Shes changed my perception on life Anna Chancellor One of my favourite authors Liane Moriarty She spins gold' Elizabeth Buchan Anne Tyler has no peer Anita Shreve My favourite writer, and the best line-and-length novelist in the world Nick Hornby A masterly author Sebastian Faulks Tyler is not merely good, she is wickedly good John Updike I love Anne Tyler Anita Brookner Her fiction has strength of vision, originality, freshness, unconquerable humour Eudora Welty

I made myself finish a stack of books that have been lingering around for far too long, as for one reason and another I was avoiding them. Hence a few weeks of odd reads - some books started but given up on, nothing grabbing my interest. Anyway, the lingering stack is now read and so I‘m rewarding myself with one of my very favourites, Anne Tyler. She writes quietly quirky characters in such a lovely, comforting way, like no one else. Loved this

Just finished my first Anne Tyler novel last night!
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Easy to read, funny & thought provoking.
The everyday life of Barnaby, his past, his present, the people around him & his relationships & attitudes to them & to life. Easily relatable with insights to youth, humanity, pride & the elderly. I was moved by Barnaby. He reminded me of Holden Caufield in Catcher in the Rye.
A great introduction! I can't wait to read another AT

CarolynM I've read a few Anne Tyler's but not this one. My favourite is 5y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @CarolynM Well I hope you get to read it one day 😊 I have Breathing Lessons! Thanks for the recommendation!! 5y

I picked this book up last week from the opshop, (my favorite place to book hunt) along with 64 other books!! Yeah I know, but it was a 3 for $1 sale, how could I resist.
Well after a satisfying few days of cataloging my entire collection of books, I began this novel by Anne Tyler. Her 14th novel. I have 3 others of hers waiting to be discovered but this one spoke to me. It drew me in since the very 1st page. Can't put it down. Highly recommended!

MrsMalaprop I love Anne Tyler. Have this on my #tbr shelf. 5y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @MrsMalaprop Oh, great! What have you read of hers? I'm loving this story and the way she writes it. It reminds me a lot of The Catcher in the Rye, which I read earlier this year. I currently have Breathing Lessons, Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, The Amateur Marraige and of course A Patchwork Planet. Have you read any of these ones? 5y
MrsMalaprop Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant is very good. I chose it for bookclub a couple of years ago. I‘ve also read A Slipping Down Life & Celestial Navigation, both of which were good. If I see a second hand Anne Tyler, I grab it! Might one day make my way through her 20-odd novels 😊. 5y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @MrsMalaprop Thanks for your message and recommendations :) I will definitely have to keep an eye out for her books in the future! 5y

Jetlagged and hungry, I waited patiently until the decent hour of 6 to finally go downstairs at my in-laws' to devour a bakzhang or rice dumpling or 粽子 with meat and chestnuts wrapped in some long leaves in the shape of a pyramid and cooked by steaming or boiling. And an Anne Tyler book and some Yorkshire Gold with milk.

mjdowens That sound and looks so delicious 7y
