Pickpick

Years ago a friend recommended this book to me. Just now digging it out of my massive #TBR pile and enjoyed every minute. Kicking myself for not reading it sooner 🙃 #Fiction #Romance #Paranormal #ParanormalRomance #HistoricalFiction

It has been a while since we have visited our favorite flea market #usedbookstore. I found 2 for my #tbr. The tagged and Moon Shot. I really need to start The land of Stories series. Lois Lowry is a big yes for us. Felt good to go out and just be in the bookstore.

Mehso-so

I did not love this book, and I don't think I even liked it. I did love the authors previous book-I'm Not Dying With You Tonight, but this one was just a bummer. What I thought the book was going to be about- Best friend cheerleaders taking a knee during the anthem and how both deal with the fallout- doesn't even happen until over half way through, and the friendship is pretty much already over by then. Neither of the main characters are ⬇

MidnightBookGirl particularly likeable, nor really supporting of the other, which made me sad. I wish it had focused on them becoming friends (like the authors did in their first book) and recognizing their strengths and weaknesses, but if the book has to constantly remind you they are besties while showing you the opposite, then I don't know what to say. I was hoping for a social justice book and got a friendship break down instead. #Readin22 #TBR #Pantone2022 2d
LiteraryinLawrence Great review. It‘s really helpful because this book sounds right up my alley, but it‘s good to know that it doesn‘t reach its potential. 2d

Pickpick

Such a strange, quiet, &upsetting novel. The prose is atmospheric & stark, the story is somehow frank and mysterious all at once. The form is jumbled & confusing until, all of a sudden, it becomes clear. CW for child death & religious fanaticism. I‘m glad I finally read this one after it being on my #TBR for years but it has left me feeling a bit off balance. A pick because I‘ll be thinking about it for awhile. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Yeah, I feel like within the “Pick“ category we need some subcategories, and I think “Thoughtful Pick“ might be one of them... a book I didn't love but is going to stick with me way longer than other books I technically enjoyed more. 7d
