This short story prequel to The Near Witch didn‘t really shed any new light on Cole…so other than Schwab‘s warm writing, it doesn‘t really add much to the story (beyond the royalty angle, which I wasn‘t expecting). However, if you haven‘t read The Near Witch, I think it spoils it a bit so best to read after. #AuthorAMonth

Before he was Cole of the "Near Witch", he was Will. The misunderstood boy with the power of wind at his fingertips. This short story was added to "The Near Witch" reprint and gave us a little insight to one of the characters. Quick, and easy read, I always love a little backstop to better understand the characters of a whole.

Book 2 of #readingrush finished! (30% into book 3, as well)

My edition of “The Near Witch” came with a very special treat: A previously out-of print novella that tells the backstory of “Cole” in-depth. Absolutely stunning! I LOVE stories about scheming nobility. This had a very Orestia/Hamlet vibe, but with the addition of magic and witchy goodness (two of my FAVORITE tales). If you love V.E. Schwab, be sure to get this special edition.
