Eva's Eye
Eva's Eye: An Inspector Sejer Mystery | Karin Fossum
No one can thoroughly chill the blood the way Karin Fossum can. Los Angeles Times Eva Magnus and her daughter are out walking by the river when a mans body floats to the waters surface. Eva goes to call the police, but when she reaches the phone, she dials another number altogether. The police find the body anyway. Inspector Sejer and his team quickly determine that the man, Egil, died in a violent attack. But Egil has been missing for months and the trail to his killer is cold. Its as puzzling as another unsolved case on Sejers desk: the murder of a prostitute, found dead just before Egil went missing. Sejer sets to work piecing together these two impossible cases; it's not long before he realizes that they arent as separate as they previously seemed.

I can‘t say that I‘m all that impressed with this (first in a series) Inspector Sejer novel. The saving grace here is that I know (or at least reviews would seem to suggest) that the series gets better. I am looking for an author to fill the gap left by Henning Mankell (Wallander) and Jo Nesbo (Harry Hole) in my Scandinavian mystery reading.
The reveal is told by a character involved in the crime, and at length, and ad nauseam. I don‘t ⬇️

gradcat (Cont.) particularly like that device, and it could have been done better to boot. Also, for some strange reason, I kept feeling as if the time was the 1890s, instead of the 1990s...can‘t really explain that last. Anyway, I will try another in the hopes of the series improving. (edited) 6y

The first in the Inspector Sejer series. Easy read, page turning. And Nordic, always good. #sejer #nordicliterature

The first in Fossum's Inspector Sejer series. There are definitely better ones later on.
