Wide Neighborhoods
Wide Neighborhoods: A Story of the Frontier Nursing Service | Mary Breckinridge
1 post | 1 read | 1 to read
This is the autobiography of Mary Breckinridge, the woman who founded the Frontier Nursing Service (FNS) in the mountains of eastern Kentucky in 1925. Riding out on horseback, the FNS nurse-midwives proved that high mortality rates and malnutrition did not need to be the norm in rural areas. By their example and through their graduates, the FNS exacted a lasting influence on family health care throughout the world.

I live in an apartment and this is the view from the 5th floor. Right behind the garden apartments is a huge park (you can see the tops of the trees) including the oldest living tree in NYC. 2 blocks away from me million dollar houses so it‘s a pretty good mix of suburban and city here.

Chrissyreadit ❤️❤️❤️I‘m trying to figure out if you are in Queens, because it looks like a Queens neighborhood- but I did not know the oldest tree in NYC was there. (I grew up in Ozone Park ) 5y
Jerdencon @Chrissyreadit yes - it‘s Bayside, Queens. The oldest tree is supposed to be in Alley Pond park and is called the Queens Giant. 5y
Chrissyreadit Wow! And I never knew. My friends and I used to play mini golf near Alley Pond but I do not know the park at all. Other than a nature program when I was about 9. 5y
