Mehso-so

Actually not a bad entry in the series in some ways - but it has more of the space exploration weirdness carries over from Ruey and I really, really wish that Girls Gone by weren‘t leaving racist language in these. I know they‘re the uncut and unabridged versions and they‘re written 70 years ago, but If their mission is to keep the books alive for a new generation they need to not have the n-word in them.

LinesUponAPage How old is this book? The cover has the feel of a B rated thriller flick. 4y
Verity @Lifeisasnap it‘s a Girls Own boarding school story written in 1961 but set somewhere in the late 40s/early 50s. The first book in the series (there were 60) was written in the 1920s and at first they were set at the time the were written but after the Second World War they didn‘t keep up iykwim. This is a reissue - and has the original dust jacket illustration for the cover. (edited) 4y
LinesUponAPage @Verity how amazing! 60 books?! How many have you read?? 4y
Verity @Lifeisasnap I think I‘ve read them all, but I‘ve thought that before! It‘s tricky because I read them in paperback when I was the “right” age in the early 90‘s and those editions looked very different! They had been modernised and abridged too. 4y
LinesUponAPage @Verity I get why publishers like to modernize, but it‘s sad too because sometimes the original covers are the best!! 4y

New arrival today - I‘ve never read the unabridged version of this one so I‘m excited to play spot the differences!

Itchyfeetreader Jack lambert! 4y
Verity @Itchyfeetreader I know! I‘ve only read this one once too - I got it only a few years ago as a grown up, as opposed to the ones I read and reread as a child, which included two big Jack books - feud and Jane! 4y
