1 Big Salad
1 Big Salad: A Delicious Counting Book | Juana Medina
5 posts | 6 read | 2 to read
Juana Medina's ingenious illustrations nearly pop off the page in her new counting book, ONE BIG SALAD. One avocado deer saunters across the spread, two radish mice scurry by, until finally ten watercress seahorses swim onto the scene - all of the ingredients in one big salad! Medina's previous book with Viking, SMICK!, introduced her to the children's book world, and now she's bringing her fresh and innovative take on the concept book form.

I read this book at storytime today. Basically, it's a recipe. We also had fun with fingerplays that practice counting, and one of my favorite body rhymes of all time, "Form the Orange."

I've decided this storytime session all of my books are either going to be by a person of color (or Native American) or feature people of color (or Native Americans).

This book is so cool! It's a cool bring book and a recipe all in one! Loved the art and that it will inspire you to make a salad! There's even a salad dressing recipe in the back! #kidlit #picturebooks

Super cute and imaginative counting book. And, Juliet's attempts to say radicchio are priceless. 😂
