A New York Times Notable Book: A womans suicide leads a man to a Nevada mining townand a nest of poisonous secretsin this top-notch thriller (Publishers Weekly). There is something about the sad woman eating alone night after night at the Harmony Caf that intrigues San Francisco CPA Jim Messenger. Unfulfilled himself, Jim feels a kinship with herand later, when she commits suicide, he resolves to find out why. His search leads him to Beulah, a middle-of-nowhere mining town in the Nevada desert, where hatreds run deep, where secrets are as venomous as a rattlesnake bite, and where a stranger asking too many questions might inexplicably disappear. Still, in this dusty, barren landscape, Jim feels completely alive. And hes not going anywhere until he uncovers the truth, even if it rips the whole town apart. Richly atmospheric and peopled with achingly human characters, Blue Lonesome is a crime novel as tense and coiled as a rattler ready to strike and as dark and hypnotic as the lonesome desert night.

Lonely CPA eats at restaurant and frequently sees same woman dining alone. He‘s interested, tries to talk to her, but she‘s shut down. One day she stops showing up altogether, and he investigates and finds that she has committed suicide. He seeks the “why” and he seeks out possible family to claim her. #California #Nevada

#screamathon @4thhouseontheleft Book 6.

Psychological thriller about a man trying to find out what drove a woman to take her own life. He travels to the desert in Nevada to unearth her past and a small town's buried secrets.

Overall the story was good, but then the author tossed in a romance aspect at the end that just felt forced to me and messed up the ending.

Librarybelle That‘s a shame! 5y
