'Wonder' is the funny, sweet and incredibly moving story of Auggie Pullman. Born with a terrible facial abnormality, this shy, bright ten-year-old has been home-schooled by his parents for his whole life, in an attempt to protect him from the stares and cruelty of the outside world.

Got some reading in while staffing the basketball admissions table at my kids‘ school. A really quick read that was hard to put down. Loved the story being told from different perspectives. Loved Auggie and his circle of friends and family. Hate that it took me so long to pick this up off my shelf! It also restored my faith in my print book reading speed. I finished this in 3 days. Haven‘t done that in ages!

BiblioLitten I often recommend this. 💙 10mo

August Pullman is a 10 year old boy who has had to undergo 27 surgeries. These surgeries have caused many scars and facial abnormalities causing him to be very self conscious. Due to his insecurities, he has been homeschooled his entire life. He is about to enter 5th grade when his parents make the recommendation that he attends school for his first time. Although he doesn‘t like the idea, he decides to give it a try.

owen.lauzon The change is massive for him and it‘s starts rough but August doesn‘t back down. With the help of his family and friends he is able to navigate his way through the challenges that grade 5 holds. I would recommend this book to anyone who has seen the movie or is looking for a great story. I would rate this book 5/5 stars, I personally thought this book was better then the movie and 11mo
owen.lauzon that is a very rare occurrence for me. The book is split into four different parts, each part is written in first person but from a different characters perspective. Each chapter uses the same pronouns but the part‘s title tells you which characters perspective is being displayed. 11mo
MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Owen! I would agree, the book is better than the movie in this case! 6/6 11mo

This book was AMAZING! Wonder shows you that even though not everyone looks like each other it doesn't make them any less of a person. You should always show kindness to everyone because you never know what they are going through on the inside. August Pullman (main character) was unbelievably strong because of the way he was treated at school. He never lost is cool but only grew kinder out the way he was treated by kids in the school. Great book!!

My 6th graders and I finished reading Wonder this week! I was honestly skeptical when I found out we were going to be reading it because I saw the movie which I thought was a one-dimensional feel-good story… but I ended up sincerely enjoying reading it w/ my students. I loved seeing them share their thoughts about & make connections w/ the book! It truly feels like we‘ve been on a journey together these past 8 weeks 🥺

Wonder is a RF and New York Times bestseller which is definitely worth its title there, and the many other awards it has won across the world. The story about an ordinary boy under special circumstances teaches kids that it is okay to be different! This is a must have in the classroom library, and would be great for either IR or LC. https://languageartsclassroom.com/2019/01/independent-reading-and-class-novels.h... #ucflae3414sp21

Adodd1 The link provided shows how to engage older readers in novels for an IR by personalizing their assignments to engage their interests. The UDL strategies that would be best would be 4.1 and 4.2 which provides student resources to help them independently complete their reading and dig deeper using background knowledge. EL strategy 30 would help students independently read and follow the story as well. 2y

This book is superb! The main character, Auggie Pullman is a young boy living with a facial deformaty and is always the star of his own story.
A great read for younger tweens and teens to help teach that you can't judge a person by the way they look. It also gives us insight into how a family copes with hardship.
There are funny parts, serious parts& parts that might make you cry. It is an easy read and would be a great book for anyone. 😁 ⭐

Genre: Children's literature
At first when I saw the cover I thought it wouldn't be as exciting as most stories, but when I read a few chapters I got interested.

As the story progressed everyone mostly talked about how Auggie (Protagonist) was born with a rare face deformity. No one would approach him at first because of his face, but later on in the story he was able to make new friends through his actions.

Wonder by R.J. Palacio is a RF book that was named as a New York Times bestseller. This book has been showered with awards and even turned into a major motion picture. Wonder is about a boy named August (Auggie) Pullman who was born with a facial deformity that causes him to get looks wherever he goes. He had never gone to a mainstream school. That is, until now. Join Auggie on his journey as he navigates uncharted waters...

Nkaufmann as a new student faced with many challenges such as bullies, science fairs, and his identity.

This book could be used for a literature circle (LC) as it evokes so many interesting discussion questions and discusses important messages such as learning to accept and love yourself for who you are.
