Pirkei Avot: A Social Justice Commentary
Pirkei Avot: A Social Justice Commentary | Shmuly Yanklowitz
4 posts | 1 to read
Pirkei Avot is the urtext of Jewish practical wisdom. In many ways, the words of Pirkei Avot were the first recorded manifesto of social justice in Western civilization. This commentary explores the text through a lens of contemporary social justice and moral philosophy, engaging both classical commentators and modern thinkers.

I had a few busy and filled days (including a very long shabbat with a group of people and a headache that made me go away earlier than the others) so I couldn't finish the 4th book by the end of Shabbat. I managed to finish it today - and I really like the commentary. He brings the voices of our sages to our contemporary world in an understandable and very Jewish way, making us understand that tikkun olam must be every day with our daily actions

It is customary to read Pirkei Avot during the Shabbatot between Pesach and Shavuot.
This week we're reading chapter 2, and I'm finding the commentary in this version extremely interesting.
