This classic story of Little Red Riding Hood won the Caldecott Medal. Retold and illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman. Her journey through the woods to her grandmothers house. When the wolf is pretending to be her grandmother. The wolf swallowed the grandmother and little red riding hood whole! The huntsman opened him up to get them out. Then they were all happy, besides the wolf of course!

This Caldecott Award winning retelling of a classic story by the Brothers Grimm is an excellent read. The story follows a little girl named Elizabeth, but also know as Little Red Riding Hood, as she journeys through the woods to deliver bread and wine to her grandmother. Along the way she encounters a hungry old wolf who makes her journey frightening.

1. Yes and no. I generally impulse choose my next read. Whether it's been banned wouldn't make a difference.
2. Forever by Judy Bloom was forbidden fruit. I read that in 5th or 6th grade early 80s
3. The tagged book is in my library. I read the Grimm's version Little Red Cap almost every year. I can't believe how many books in my collection have been challenged somewhere.

mandarchy I had a principal try to remove 4 books from my library. I just put them in my back office. She never learned how to use the catalog so they were safe. Since then I've had people request them. That principal had been replaced. I hope that's the extent of it 🤭😏 2y

A timeless classic and Caldecott Honor TL, Little Red Riding Hood by Trina Schart Hyman. Most children know this fairy tale about a young girl in red hood who travels through the woods to see her grandmother, expect something just doesn‘t seem right about her poor old grandmother, she seems to resemble a... wolf! With some twists and turns students will be at the edge of their seat to see what happens next. Perfect for S. #ucflae3414su20

Emmaturtle3 This link: https://www.easypeasyandfun.com/little-red-riding-hood-finger-puppets/ is to a little red riding finger puppet activity. This activity could pair perfectly with S (storytelling), the students would hold up their finger puppets as we read aloud the story. I saw this done in a class I volunteered with last year, they did it for the 3 little pigs and the students LOVED it! Will most definitely incorporate this into my future classroom. 4y
Emmaturtle3 ESOL Strategy #17 I can provide contextual support to my students through storytelling as well as modeling using the finger puppets we made. UDL 1.1 can be used by offering a different display of information through the hands-on creation of the puppets used during the story. 4y
CameoD I love this classic story!! The Esol strategies and UDL you paired with it are perfect :) 4y

Little Red Riding Hood is a Caldecott award-winning book retold and illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman. The genre is TL as this book tells the classic fairy tale about Little Red Riding Hood and her encounters with the Big Bad Wolf. This book would be best told as a dramatic reenactment (DR). This would be fun for the students and would aid them in comprehending the story.

Nkaufmann After reenacting the story, the teacher could discuss the theme of the story with the students.

The UDL principle 4.2 regarding optimizing access to tools and assistive technologies and the EL principle 17 regarding providing contextual support through audio, visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions, can be met by this picture book.
4y
Nkaufmann Giving the students tools such as costumes can help them get into the part and is also a very engaging activity. The teacher should encourage students to use their body language and facial expressions to aid them in telling the story.

Another classic book that really can benefit a classroom and keep students engaged! This book is folktale/ fiction picture book and is a Caldecott and golden kite winner. I would use a dramatic reenactment for this book because it‘s a tale most people know of all ready and is easy to reenact using the students in your classroom to engage them!

Hannacallaham For ESOl I would use 15. Reinforce the key ideas you present again and again and 46. Use discovery learning activities . For UDL I would use 3.2 and 1.1 4y

This is a TL book retold by Trina Schart Hyman and it‘s about a little girl on her way to deliver a basket of food to her shock grandmother, but encounters a sly wolf. This book would be great for DR and won the Caldecott award. https://www.amazon.com/Little-Red-Riding-Hood/dp/B01KI3ZRTM the UDL principal 1.2 offer alternatives for auditory information and EL 14 simplify your speech by making it slower and refund goes well with the audio book i

KarliCrean Choose in the website above because it will give the students a way to follow along on the book and the reader in the audio is very slow so it‘s easy for students to understand what is being read to them. #UCFLAR3414SP20 4y

I like how the story has the overly themes of stranger danger and obeying parents, because it is a crucial thing to teach children. The book represents cultural norms that have evolved through the years where children need to be more aware of their safety.

Little red riding hood by Trina Hyman in my opinion is not a children‘s book. I did not like how the wolf ate the grandmother and little red riding hood. Also how the huntsman cut open the wolf to get them both out I don‘t think is very appropriate for children. I thought it was a good book just appropriate for 4th grade and up.

#RedRoseSeptember Day 24: In this version of the classic fairytale, little Red named Elizabeth brought her grandmother a loaf of fresh bread (not cake) and butter to go with it – but there‘s still the wine – because that‘s the best #remedy for a sick grandma, apparently. The more I look at Hyman‘s art, the more I fall in love with it – her playing with light and shadows and textures. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-bgt

Retold and illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman, Little Red Riding Hood is a TL picture book that was awarded the Caldecott Honor. Elisabeth (aka Little Red Riding Hood) goes to visit her sick grandmother, and she is given specific instructions by her mother before she leaves. However, as she is on her way to her grandmother‘s, a sly, wicked wolf follows LRRH in the woods in hopes he could eat both LRRH and the food in her basket. #ucflae3414su19

MeganKlein The wolf then pretends to be LRRH‘s grandmother and continues to trick LRRH so he can eat her. I would teach this book by adapting it into a RT, and then I would have my students read aloud from a script. Making this into a RT would allow students to work on their fluency, and it would engage all students. UDL strategy 7.3 (minimize threats and distractions) and ESOL strategy 16 (integrate speaking, listening, and writing activities) both align 5y
MeganKlein with this text and the RT that it would be adapted to. A RT helps minimize distractions since students are the ones telling the story. http://images.pcmac.org/Uploads/DesotoCSD/DesotoCSD/Departments/DocumentsCategor... Page 2 of this lesson plan has students comparing different versions of fairytales, and this resource can be used for a variety of TL texts. 5y

This traditional literature picture book is a great story that has won the Golden Kite Award for picture book text. It‘s about a girl who goes to see her grandmother but encounters a sly wolf on her way there. This is a great book to use for a readers theatre because there are different characters they can play. The UDL I would use is 8.3 foster collaboration and community. The ESOL strategy I would use is 2 promote cooperation.
