A teen attempts to forgive the unforgiveable in this stunning novel (VOYA) based on a tragic true story from the author of the New York Times bestselling Unwind dystology.Preston Scott was only twelve years old when his father killed his mother. He never saw it coming. Despite his parents constant fighting, Preston always thought they were perfect together. He never dreamed his father would be capable of murder. Then again, who could ever predict something like this? Fast forward: Preston is now fourteen. His father has just been released from jail and is moving near his grandparents house, where Preston and his younger brother Tyler have been living. His grandparents forgave his dad long ago for killing their daughter, and although Preston tries to feel the same kind of forgiveness, its not easy: hell never see his mother again, and yet, he still loves his father. How is that possible? Will Preston ever be able to reconcile his dueling feelings for his father, and move past this tragedy? Chasing Forgiveness was originally published in 1991 as What Daddy Did.

This was a short book but woah did it pack a punch for me.

Based on a true story, Preston Scott was only 12 yrs old when his father killed his mother.

Thy line hooked me and going through Prestons journey of confusion, hate and anger along with love made me so sad for him. I couldn‘t even imagine what I would do if I was this family. I think everyone would do something different but this family decisions was seriously amazing.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

JudeCC I love Neal Shusterman! He's one of my favorite authors under the dystopian genre. Thanks for sharing this! I'll check it out 👍 5y

Wow!! My first Shusterman was really good. This book was published in 1991 under the title “What Daddy Did”. Chasing Forgiveness is a better title, imo. Based on a true story. Would have never found this book if it weren‘t a bargain book at BO. Middle grade/YA read...it‘s says 12 and up.
Heavy topic.

We always talk about making sure our students see themselves in the books to share....well, I know just the student to share this book with (after I read it first). One of the 7th grade boys at my school saw his father shoot and kill his mother. He now lives with his grandma. I don‘t know what he feels about his dad but he is an angry middle schooler. Maybe meeting Preston can help...? I don‘t know yet.
