GRAIL‘s opening excited the hell out of me with its promised clash between our physically altered characters and others who‘ve engineered neurological changes. Those parts of the book were indeed fascinating, with a nice emphasis on understanding over judgement, but I was far less interested in the book‘s other major storyline, which rehashes old conflicts from DUST and CHILL. Still, the ending works well and I‘m pleased with the trilogy overall.

It‘s proper warm right now (ie, 30). Naturally, I had to take an #audiowalk while I soaked up all that glorious heat. It feels especially nice because the former forecast said it was gonna be under 20 for the rest of the year. Thank you, Weather Gods, for this reprieve!

I finished GRAIL on my walk, too. I‘ll gather my thoughts and give y‘all a review soon.

A looooooong train kept me from taking an #audiowalk in the park, as planned, so I wandered around a nearby Superstore instead—and found a UNICORN SKELETON!

I want one, but I also recognize I have no use for one.

Eyelit that is amazing! 5y
xicanti @Eyelit right? They‘ve also got octopus skeletons and dragon skeletons, but I think the unicorn is the best. 5y
Eyelit ok, the fact that there is one for an octopus is hilarious. they do know they are invertebrates, right?!? lol 5y

Eyelit but I guess that's doesn't really matter... cause unicorns and dragons technically don't exist. :-) 5y
xicanti @Eyelit obviously Superstore has discovered another kind of monster octopus that DOES have a skeleton. It only comes out around Halloween. 😉 5y
Eyelit Fair. And to be honest any of the three would pique my buying interest... so they‘ve got my number 😂 5y
xicanti @Eyelit if they have any left during the post-Halloween discount period, I might cave and get them. 5y
tournevis Today, I bought one of the shiny black ceramic skulls that were to the left of those! 5y
xicanti @tournevis they always have such cool Halloween stuff! I loved the “crystal” skulls from last year (or maybe it was the year before). 5y
tournevis @xicanti Year before, I think. Last year, it was the skull glasses. I got a tumbler 5y

I‘m just over halfway through GRAIL after an #audiowalk through the woodlot and surrounding environs, and I‘m conflicted. The first contact storyline has got me EXCITED, but Bear devotes lots of attention to an internal conflict on the ship. And I mean, it‘s not BAD, but it‘s also something we saw a ton of in the first two books. It feels played out compared to what‘s happening between the ship and the inhabitants of the planet they‘ve arrived at.
