Race and Reunion
Race and Reunion | David W. BLIGHT
3 posts | 1 read | 3 to read
No historical event has left as deep an imprint on America's collective memory as the Civil War. In the war's aftermath, Americans had to embrace and cast off a traumatic past. David Blight explores the perilous path of remembering and forgetting, and reveals its tragic costs to race relations and America's national reunion.

“It‘s the fact that this occurred in Charleston at a cemetery site for the Union dead in a city where the Civil war had begun,” says Blight, “and that it was organized and done by African American former slaves is what gives it such poignancy.”

GingerAntics 💙💙💙 thank you for sharing this. What an amazing story. The lady at the end who was shocked to find out her grandfather‘s story was true made me tear up. 3y

Oohh, I like the quote choice for the prologue intro.

This book seems so relevant based on the current political atmosphere.

This poor book from the university library has seen better days! I almost want to go buy them a new copy!
