The next in the Lost Princesses series, Jody Hedlund‘s Foremost connects us with the second princess, the eldest twin, Maribel, just as she‘s about to turn 18. Unlike her sister Adelaide who has been raised in a family, Maribel has been raised by nuns in a hidden abbey far away from the outside world. Unaware of her royal status, she believes she is destined to join the abbey and become a nun to use her healing gifts.

The series just keeps getting better and each princess‘ journey is unique. The series should be read in order though. The prequel sets the stage well and each consecutive book spurs the overarching theme and plot forward with intricate details, beautifully crafted characters, and plenty of action and suspense. Jody Hedlund is a master storyteller and her gift in weaving YA medieval fairytales is a true gem to behold.
