I feel like I should/could have known earlier that Noah Gordon and me, we won‘t get friends. Nothing really dragged me to this book during the last few days.
I remember that I devoured “The Physician” and its successors in my teenage years. Couldn‘t put them down.
But this one❓ Lack of plot. Plus: It would definitely have benefited from a glossary.
I liked to refresh my knowledge of Judaism, that‘s all good I can say about this book.
panI was inclined to rate “So-So”, but no, I decided, I can‘t. Usually, I like stories where you kind of “watch people living” but this one was boring to me. There was no element of suspense. (Which is wrong, there is one in the beginning but I forgot about it for ~380 pages. Which means, it doesn‘t serve as suspense element.)
After 60 % I wondered when the story will finally start. After 80 %, I realised there‘s nothing exciting to come.
I got up so, so early this morning, on purpose. And my plan was to finish my book today. So I yesterday imagined I would read all of today‘s morning.
Well, what I did was to finish paperwork I had assigned myself to do and finish paperwork that came in during the last past days. After having had my car tyres changed I ate a late lunch and now I have such a low.
Caffeine and book for the rescue‼️

Slowly and told away from beaten paths, here and there with room for minor characters, but without meandering too much.
No exciting and action loaded plot, but rather calm. Interesting and perhaps therefore gripping.
I‘m glad I found an online dictionary to look things up in.

There is a footnote with an explanation for „MIT“ – which is okay since, I‘ve already mentioned it, it‘s a rather old book, published 1965, – but _why_then_ don‘t they include a glossary for all the Yiddish expressions in there❓

I know it‘s a rather old book, published 1965, and that, at that time, electroshocks were state of the art in therapy of depression – but it still gives me goosebumps. 😢
I learned from Wikipedia that they are today used as therapy very, very seldom – and I say: for good reason‼️
Needed to think about this after I first saw it at @thebluestocking – saw it again at @annamatopoetry and found her answer to no. 2 so fitting that I join in.

2) I normally don‘t do that because I don‘t read short enough books and don‘t have enough time but the last one was just recently: “Light on Snow” by Anita Shreve.
3) Coming back in from outside. The colours of the leaves. The noise of walking through dry leaves.

I just found out that the two books by Noah Gordon I found in my pile earlier this evening are “The Rabbi“ and “The Death Committee”. None of those belongs to the trilogy about the physician.
And additionally, I found a copy of “The Bodega” (published 2008!) , given to me by the “in-laws” still welded in. 😯
Starting „Der Rabbi” now with hopes of finding an entertaining, easy-reading story yet again.
