The Fate of Anatomical Collections
The Fate of Anatomical Collections | Dr Rina Knoeff, Prof Dr Robert Zwijnenberg
1 post
This volume explores the changing status of anatomical collections from the early modern period to date. It is argued that anatomical and pathological collections are medically relevant for future research, and are important in the history of medicine, the cultural history of the body, and the history of the institutions to which they belong. In considering the fate of anatomical collections and the importance of keepers decisions with respect to collections this volume will make an important methodological contribution to the study of collections and to discussions on how to preserve universities academic heritage.

This is the first time one of my profs has assigned us their own work, and I don‘t think I‘ve ever enjoyed a piece of academic writing more. This is from Lynn M Morgan‘s essay, “The Rise and Demise of a Collection of Human Fetuses at Mount Holyoke College,” as it appeared in Perspectives in Biology and Medicine, v49, #3, Johns Hopkins University Press, 2006
