Laurel Macintosh swore to Luly and Zack Reed she would always look after them as her own, and proves it to them every day. As tensions continue to escalate in the Reed household, their parents count on her more and more. One day, however, Laurel acts on an aggravated impulse and disappears with the children, while on a sanctioned sailing trip, leaving the parents bewildered, devastated, and furious. The children enjoy the ride for a while, but eventually want to go home. Laurel and her male accomplice, however, convince them home is wherever they take them. They keep the charade going, until the choppy swells of the sea deliver both mercy and justice.
This took me a long time to get into and there are lots of different characters narratives going on at once which was a bit confusing at the beginning. Overall a decent story, but it didnt suck me in quite like I expect from books.
