W Or the Memory of Childhood
W Or the Memory of Childhood | Georges Perec
2 posts | 6 read | 2 to read
Combining fiction and autobiography in a quite unprecedented way, Georges Perec leads the reader inexorably towards the horror that lies at the origin of the post-World War Two world and at the crux of his own identity.

Weekly Report

I am reading a little of Celestial Harmonies each day and I think I'll restart The Rainbow as my subway book this week. I'm halfway through the Perec (tagged). I finished, a few days late, Kintu and then read The Sandman Overture. And somehow, not only have I not killed my plant, it bloomed!

Pickpick

Perec has been my favorite modernist author since 'A Void' and its extraordinary Russian translation. W hasn't disappointed me either: half-autobiographical, half-dystopian, it is clever, intriguing, enchanting in form and melancholic in mood. It is a wonderful read, where vague memories meet disastrous reality, and sheer fantasy becomes grim allusion to the modern world. Perec's life was full of 'points de suspension', so are his novels. #french
