There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom
There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom: Rejacketed | Louis Sachar
"Give me a dollar or I'll spit on you." That's Bradley Chalker for you. He is the oldest child in the class. He tells enormous lies. He picks fights with girls, and the teachers say he has 'serious behaviour problems'. No one likes him - except Carla, the new school counsellor. She thinks Bradley is sensitive and generous, and she even enjoys his far-fetched stories. Carla knows that Bradley could change, if only he weren't afraid to try. Sometimes the hardest thing in the world is believing in yourself.

This book was published in 1987, and follows a young boy named Bradley. Bradley acts out at school, never does his homework, and has no friends. But with the help of a new counselor, he becomes a new person. This is a great book with a great message, and I would definitely use this in my classroom.

My daughter & I were enjoying this book so much we orderd LS other novel holes before we had finished.

I thought this was a new novel but later found out it was written in 1987, a great year 🎂 🥳 😁😂

A lovely thought provoking Story about a school bully & his school councillor, how when treated like a monster& seen as a monster , it‘s easy to start seeing a monster too & even starting to act like one.

Kindness really does go a long way ❤️

ckittle019 I read this to my 4th grade classes, they love it! 4y

I just realized I forgot to finish my #7Days7Books so I'll probably post the last two today:
Day 6: While as a teacher I disagree with so many of the adults' actions in this book, the lessons about kindness, believing in one's self, and just trying to do your best no matter what made such an impression on me. Thinking about it just now made me feel the need to reread it, so I've been sneaking it in on breaks all day.

I missed this book when it came out, although I'm not sure how- I was 10 in 1987 when the book came out. But it wasn't until recently that I heard about the book on Litsy, and I can see why everyone loves it! For a book written over 30 years ago, Bradley the Bully's tale is still very relevant, and it goes to show that no child is a lost cause.

Scochrane26 I didn‘t read it until a few years ago. 5y

On my pod, the beginning of December means more than holiday music on the radio... it means that New Reads November is over and we‘re back to our usual literary throwbacks! And what better way to get back into the routine than with Episode 74, a conversation about Louis Sachar‘s There‘s a Boy in the Girls‘ Bathroom, which shines a spotlight on mental health and counseling. Actress, YouTuber, and author Lisa Schwartz guests! Link to listen in bio.

Typically not a book I would read. But I so enjoyed it. I found myself rooting for Bradley! I laughed and cried with this book.

I enjoyed this simple, cute and emotional book. It was a quick read, and I loved how the story progressed. I was able to emphatise especially with Bradley, whose experiences made me remember how deeply getting bullied and excluded can affect you, especially when you're a child. I loved Carla's relationship with Bradley, which was an example of how someone who just listens and believes in you is actually all you need sometimes. Would recommend it🌼

This was recommended to me by my son, who had it read to him in class - his first book recommendation to me! How could I not read it?! Thankfully it was an excellent story, about a badly behaved boy who gradually learns to believe in himself. Thought provoking and sweet.

This has generated some great discussion with my year 5 reading group about fitting in and the complications of friendships & growing up in general. Most of the group stormed ahead and finished it super fast. I've just caught up! Highly recommended as a springboard for discussion or just nostalgia.

Reading this with my Year 5 reading group. They're loving it and despite only being on chapter 21 officially - most of them have finished it. I need to catch up! Some great discussion topics.
