I went into this book without any idea of the subject matter other than horror- but suffice it to say, this would be a good read for #TeamMonsterMash. I really enjoyed this one, and could identify with both the main characters, who both feel like hopeless screwups. Sometimes we just need real monsters to make us realize we aren't that bad after all. #TeamSlaughter #Scarathlon @Clwojick
5pts for the read, 15pt because of the photo prompt word!

I'm enjoying reading a book like this! Plus, I've only listened to the audiobooks, so reading this in print has been fun- forgot Matthew's creepiness, but I guess that's why it's sometimes referred to as Twilight for adults, lol. Two more chapters to go!

**Also, if you like challenges like this, then A Night in the Lonesome October is 31 chapters that match the 31 days of October. I've re-read that a few times.

Rose is hitchhiking ghost, and while most urban legends paint her as a murderous ghost, she actually saves those she cans and helps others to not die alone when she can't. This first book is a series of short stories, and the timeline is a bit all over the place, but oh how I wish the Winchester Boys had found Rose and teamed up. The ghost mythology itself is worth the read!

This was so not the book for me. The writing style grated on my nerves, I found the hippies on the bus to be selfish, entitled asshats, and the only part I enjoyed at all was when Kinsey tried to fake his own death in such a moronic way. I did achieve in picking something unusual for True Crime Book Club, but I truly regret making people buy this book. Maybe if you enjoy the beat poets or were on the bus you'd like it?

This one won't come out until August, but I devoured it! I really think Hale did a great job of presenting everything in this case, and really focusing on how and why Morgan and Anisa did what they did, while still being respectful to the victim, Payton (at the time called Bella). What happened to Payton was awful, and it's also awful how we treat kids with mental illness, and the whole super predator bs.

This is such a weird, quirky book, and I really liked it. Gilda is unemployed and plagued by out of control anxiety when she stumbles into a job as a secretary for a Catholic church, where she pretends to be both Catholic and heterosexual. The older woman, Grace, who previously held her position has died, but possibly not of natural causes. Gilda also impersonates Grace in emails to one of Grace's friends in order to avoid breaking the news ⬇

I'm not quite sure I buy the idea of a fat camp happening over the winter holidays, because kids don't get that much time off of school, but strangely that was what I found to be unrealistic and not the idea that weight loss bars were turning kids into zombies. I'm pretty much ready for the zombie apocalypse, and I was definitely more prepared for that than I was for COVID-19.

This is the second of a duology, and I liked it more than the first book, mostly because I was already familiar with the world building. And while there is romance in this fantasy, it's not the focus of the heroine's story, and she doesn't necessarily find her soul mate at 17. Love Havenfall and the Inn. :)

I would love to see more books like this! This one is fairly heavy on the God talk, which makes sense given the author, but I thought it did a great job of bringing the focus on a woman being a whole person. I grew up just assuming I'd be a mom, but it didn't happen, and the Hubs and I are happy with our lives. I have lots of childfree friends- all with many different reasons why, which this book addresses.

While I love the historical queer romance cover, I hate when covers don't match the characters- as Teddy has short hair and the only time we see her dressed up as a lady, it's as an old doddering aunt. Someone mentioned that this book should be titled the Perks of Loving a Bluestocking, and I second that! But the title wouldn't have made as much sense. The romance was okay, but I was in it for Teddy's family and the subplot.

I did not enjoy this book. I picked it our one of our bookstore book clubs because the premise is a good one- on Super Bowl Sunday, technology stops. No computers, no tvs, just silence. The book starts on an airplane, which was promising, and then spends most of it's time in an apartment with 5 very pretentious people. I usually like unlikeable characters, but this was just not my jam at all. Sigh. At least the discussion of the book was good!
