Something else ppl should know. The text font is not always appropriate for the material. Sometimes too small, as if scanned to .pdf.

I didn't like it like I thought I would.
It coveys a lot of different types of blackness, but not that much I could relate to outside of BLM.
Such a phenomenal collection of works gathered from around the world!!!! The diversity is exquisite! Each piece is so powerful. The division of sections was well-done. I love that the editors did not just choose creators from particular areas or careers; they strived for and achieved reflecting the rich, innumerable experiences of black people. The collection shows the tough realities of being black but also provides hope and love.
Well I made a mistake. This is not a book to check out from the library where you gave limited time to absorb it. The vast range if topics is exceptional. The people I had not heard or, the sections I never thought of (horses?).
My only complaint would be that some of the screen grabs were so tiny this book finally pushed me to make the eye appointment I had been putting off.
Gorgeously done book that needs your time.
Haters are people who read with no resume and critique with no credentials - is that you?

My library is doing this amazing thing where they will mail your books to you for free! It came about due to lockdowns and it is fantastic. You have to return the book yourself but how great is this for disabled people who cannot get to the library when their books are randomly ready?
The tagged book is a collection of of ways the African American community is speaking& acting to care for itself. Beautiful book to read from every day.
Started two books yesterday. Black futures is a browsing book, words and pictures/artwork about what it's like to be black now.
The standouts I looked at last night are GirlTrek, an organization that uses walking to build black women's health & activism (GirlTrek.org) and Gayby Love, Linda Villarosa's description of her decision to have children and her relationship to activism. Artwork by Florine Demosthene & Jordan Castreel.

This isn‘t out in physical copy where I live got a few months so I was able to request and get this ebook through my library.
This is a collection of everything, poetry, artwork, interviews that all capture Black artists, Black activists and the spirit of archiving the present for the Black future. Amazing and I‘m looking forward to having the physical copy soon! 5 stars.
The magazine format of this book didn‘t 100% work for me as an audiobook, but the great readers and pertinent topics made up for it. I‘m waiting for a physical copy to come in from the library, and I think that will be better.
Is anyone interested in doing buddy reads for Roxanne Gay‘s bookclub? Not sure how it would work- maybe just read and discuss here the last week of the month? Comment below if interested.

Just is case anyone is interested. Seems interesting. The tagged book is the book for January.
@sprainedbrain here's the 2021 line up for Gay's book club, in case you don't want to bother with Twitter! I don't think she's put out any info beyond this list (and the fantastic club name)
Roxanne Gay is starting a book club. The tagged book is their first read. She‘ll be posting more details soon. Believe it‘s open to anyone who‘s interested.
This book is amazing...a collection of essays, poetry, social media posts, photographs, art and way more. I had a Galley (read as a PDF on my computer for full color) and supplemented with audio (some of my favorite narrators like Bahni Turpin, Robin Miles, and Dominic Hoffman), but I‘m definitely getting a copy in print.
