Second book in a travelogue series which I started many years ago. The author is an Arabist who in this series follows the greatest traveller of the Middle Ages, Ibn Battuta (Marco Polo was an amateur) this time during his time in India where he served as a Judge, ambassador and for a while tried to be Sufi, vacillating from riches and fame to time as a pauper. Elegantly and vividly written managing to capture a sense of place and time.
