Give a Boy a Gun
Give a Boy a Gun | Todd Strasser
2 posts | 14 read | 1 to read
Todd Strasser’s acclaimed account of school violence that Kirkus Reviews calls “vivid, distressing, and all too real.” For as long as they can remember, Brendan and Gary have been mercilessly teased and harassed by the jocks who rule Middletown High. But not anymore. Stealing a small arsenal of guns from a neighbor, they take their classmates hostage at a school dance. In the panic of this desperate situation, it soon becomes clear that only one thing matters to Bendan and Gary: revenge.

It‘s kinda sad that this book, written 20 years ago, is still very relevant today.

Pickpick

Growing up in the wake of incidents like Columbine and Sandy Hook it is imperative that we open our eyes widely to our current gun culture. This book takes the perspectives of many and blends together an important theme of how treating people with respect and kindness can mean the difference of life or death. This would be a great book to teach in a high school classroom.
