⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
In 2021, I‘m endeavoring to read all of CS Lewis‘ works in chronological order. I honestly did not know what to expect since this predates his dramatic conversion. These poems were so moving! They are clearly a window into his tormented soul as he sought to reconcile the idea of a just, loving God with the horrors of WWI. This book was a wonderful way to launch my exploration into Lewis‘ mind and heart. I recommend this book.

An excerpt from what I think is one of the better poems. It‘s so clear that he was very young when he wrote these poems! #currentlyreading

Pruzy How do you get that he was very young when he wrote it? How young do you think? 5y
Lcsmcat @Pruzy He was 21. I know this because he was born in 1898 and the book was written/published in 1919. The poems “sound” young because of the attitude they convey of knowing everything with certainty. His more mature writing is not afraid to wrangle with doubt. 5y
Pruzy @Lcsmcat Interesting! Thanks for the info! 5y

This is pre-conversion Lewis, and you can tell. But there‘s some amazing imagery here. #currentlyreading #poetrymatters

JMEdwards Reminds me of a scene from 5y
Centique @JMEdwards oh yes! I know the one exactly. 💔 5y
