Late Xmas presents. Looking forward to reading them both but especially Richard E Grant. I heard him on the radio when he was promoting the book. Interesting ,unassuming , humble man. Oh and funny too.

I wanted to love this book—a story about a settlement in Brazil founded by fugitive slaves? Bring it on! But after getting through just over half, I just can‘t do it anymore, because I hate the writing. It‘s very difficult to follow and she keeps having characters repeat themselves, sometimes 6 times. I‘m sure there‘s a reason for the repetition, but it drove me crazy!
I put Palmares on my TBR list after reading a short blurb on it. I knew nothing about the author or her story and role as a groundbreaking author. This is her first novel in decades. Great article on her legacy and forthcoming novel. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1mROZqAO4XvGBMlokJ7-SKtyKQcsVlO0SZkRlZW9I...
