The End of Innocence
The End of Innocence | Moni Mohsin
1 post | 1 read
1971. While a savage civil war rages in East Pakistan, in the safe, cosy village of Sabzbagh, life appears to continue undisturbed. It is here that nine-year-old Laila is spending her winter vacation. Her friend is Rani, who is hurtling into a forbidden love affair.

Pickpick

This was my pick for #FoodAndLit #Pakistan

I really enjoyed the way this was written from (mostly) the point of view of Laila.

After an illness, Laila returns home to her parents in Sabzbagh, while her sister remains in Lahore.
With her sister away, Laila is now the sole friend and confidante of her grandmothers servant Rani. But Laila is still a child, and does not understand the confession or the danger that Rani is in.
