I really enjoyed a different series by this author and though to try this. It was okay…parts of the story are slow going, and I was not very engaged with 16 year old Christopher as the narrator. The reveal is interesting, but not quite enough to move this up from a so-so. I do recommend a tissue nearby for the author‘s note—it‘s very moving.

Soft pick. I probably shouldn't have read this directly after an Agatha Christie. Where she is charming and witty, this was charming but silly. And the plotting and false leads weren't half as fiendish. I also didn't entirely buy the 1925 setting. However, the mystery and the unlikely grandfather & teenage boy detective team grew on me, and I might give the next book a go at some point.

Nice little story, sequel to the tagged book.
I find short mysteries particularly difficult do pull off, but this did the job quite well. A testament to the characters in particular, all very interesting, especially the detective.
Lord Edgington is a seventy-five year old retired Scotland Yard detective still full of spank that investigates mystery with the help of his sixteen-year-old nephew. A great couple!
