A group of teens who call themselves The Monsters, celebrating their last summer before college & jobs, start a wildfire that devastates their town. It's an accident but even that is illegal in CA so they lie about their whereabouts. But the law is closing in. Lying leads to more lies while secrets some of the friends have been keeping from the group threatens to tear them apart. Then one of the friends can't take the lying and decides to tell ⬇️

Holy crap, y'all. This is intense. These kids are in a huge mess and I can't decide if I should root for them or not.

A cautionary tale about an out-of-control wildfire and the kids who unintentionally set that fire and the lies they tell in the hopes that no one will find out. Soon the lies pile up. Then one of them wants to come clean. Then she disappears. I didn‘t see any of this story coming. It was plotted perfectly and it really kind of surprised me. Even when the characters were unlikeable, I found this compulsive, right up until the very end.

This is a tense and well written mystery and suspense novel for readers that want a young adult book with characters no longer in high school. The details and research about wildfires and their devastating potential is well done and paints an accurate portrayal. Each of the characters are well fleshed out and realistic even if I did not find them very likable.
I recommend this one for upper YA mystery fans
