The Last Man on the Moon
The Last Man on the Moon: Astronaut Eugene Cernan and America's Race in Space | Donald A. Davis, Eugene Cernan
4 posts | 6 read
Eugene Cernan is a unique American who came of age as an astronaut during the most exciting and dangerous decade of spaceflight. His career spanned the entire Gemini and Apollo programs, from being the first person to spacewalk all the way around our world to the moment when he left man's last footprint on the Moon as commander of Apollo 17. Between those two historic events lay more adventures than an ordinary person could imagine as Cernan repeatedly put his life, his family and everything he held dear on the altar of an obsessive desire. Written with New York Times bestselling author Don Davis, this is the astronaut story never before told - about the fear, love and sacrifice demanded of the few men who dared to reach beyond the heavens for the biggest prize of all - the Moon.

It still bums me out that we have not been back to the moon. This is a wonderful account by the last man to set foot there. “And, as we leave the Moon at Taurus- Littrow, we leave as we came and, God willing, as we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind. Godspeed the crew of Apollo 17.”

I'm in the middle of two books right now, so instead I thought I'd share my old, beat up, well used, well loved planisphere and my signed copy of Gene Cernan's book. It's been years since I read it, but it holds a space on my science shelves. #readinglog #science #space #apolloprogram

I was watching In the shadow of the moon on PBS before I started this book. The guys with the Right Stuff are mortal and getting older but boy did they have a hell of a ride.

MrBook This one is on my bookshelf staring at me, lol. 8y
