An unexpected correspondence between this thought of Sibelius, the last book I read, Frankl's lectures on meaning and suffering, "Yes to Life in Spite of Everything", and Red Pine's commentaries on "The Heart Sutra", which I'm making slow but steady progress with. ??
Bookwomble I don't think Sibelius means to say that suffering is an end in itself, nor that it should be sought as a means to an end, but that suffering, if confronted and accepted as part of life, can be transformed into something precious. He goes on to say, "My feeling of being alone has been stronger than ever. Death approaches...I have many new ideas!" He was to live another 50 productive years. 2y
