A teen girl navigates friendship drama, the end of high school, and discovering her queerness in this hilarious and heartfelt contemporary YA debut by author Racquel Marie, Ophelia After All Ophelia Rojas knows what she likes: her best friends, Cuban food, rose-gardening, and boys way too many boys. Her friends and parents make fun of her endless stream of crushes, but Ophelia is a romantic at heart. She couldnt change, even if she wanted to. So when she finds herself thinking more about cute, quiet Talia Sanchez than the loss of a perfect prom with her ex-boyfriend, seeds of doubt take root in Ophelias firm image of herself. Add to that the impending end of high school and the fracturing of her once-solid friend group, and things are spiraling a little out of control. But the course of loveand sexualitynever did run smooth. As her secrets begin to unravel, Ophelia must make a choice between clinging to the fantasy version of herself shes always imagined or upending everyones expectations to rediscover who she really is, after all.

A pretty good sexuality discovery and friendship-building narrative. I'd say this was perfectly average and sweet. Loved the gardening detail of Ophelia's life. I wish the characters were a bit more fleshed out, but enjoyed having characters with various sexualities, as well as with undefined/unlabeled ones. I don't often find books where a character is allowed to experience their sexuality and not find a label that fits. #LGBTQ

I'm so behind on reviews but here's my next read! Lol somehow it also ended up being about seniors in HS who are weeks away from homecoming...

It‘s Week 3 of New Reads November 2022 on my book pod! Tune in today as Lyssa Kay Adams (of Bromance Book Club fame) drops in to chat about OPHELIA AFTER ALL. We both really loved this coming of age story, which tackles matters of identity and friendship and self-discovery from seemingly endless fresh angles. We also swap stories from our own prom and high school experiences! 💐 Listen at the link in my bio.

The writing wasn‘t anything special (also present tense? what‘s up with that?) and some of the side characters had so much potential but ended up feeling a little one note. That being said, I had a lot of fun with this (especially trying to figure out what was going on with this love octagon). A sweet, easy YA read but I think it would make a better TV show, honestly.

This one was cute, but just not my thing. Even as a high schooler, the drama drove me crazy. It was wayyyy too much. The friend group dynamics were neat, but they weren't enough to salvage the book. And the romance was mildly misleading. I like what this one tried to accomplish, but it wasn't my thing
