The Book of Memory Gaps
The Book of Memory Gaps | Cecilia Ruiz
2 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
Simon remembers every act of sin ever confessed to him. Pavel forgets what he has just played and rehearses the same melody over and over. Unable to recall faces, Veronika uses different perfumes to remember the ones she loves. The Book of Memory Gaps is a collection of darkly humorous mini-stories that examine our curious and capricious unconscious. With concise, lyrical prose and a discerning command of color, Cecilia Ruiz captures the delicate and fleeting nature of memory, as well as its immense powerafter all, who would we be without it? From the Hardcover edition.

#LiteraryLove Day 10: #SentimentalSunday reminded me of this thoughtful, complex & sophisticated book.
“We are the things we don‘t remember,
the blank spaces, the forgotten words.”
Ruiz introduces the reader to 14 characters, each one with their stories of spaces-in-between distilled into 50 words or less. There is a seeping quiet that makes me feel fortunate that I live in a world where books like these exist.

I had to take a break from reading novels for the last year due to lingering concentration issues I'm having from a concussion 3 years ago and rollercoaster mental health. I am feeling the books on my To Read shelves calling my name again so we'll see what happens. I've missed visiting new places in books.

SassyBookworm Love this! Such a great quote! 7y
