“Fiction rejects coincidences, but life abounds in them,“ Rechy writes. In this absorbing picaresque, twists and turns, both comic and tragic, abound: from Lyle's childhood as a bastard in Texas to being swept up and exploited by nefarious fundamentalists, and ultimately landing in the glitter and grime of Hollywood. The propulsion of coincidences kept me turning the pages of this novel, hungry to know what would happen next. A pleasure!
