pickPart of New Directions Pearls Series, this collects 2 different stories by equally influential authors. In Dostoevsky's The Crocodile a pompous civil servant is swallowed whole by a crocodile. The event itself & the aftermath is absurd & rather humorous. Dostoevsky was viciously attacked by papers at the time as his story was being serialized & it is unfinished, but IMO this doesn't detract from the story. I was reminded of Gogol's The Nose for 👇
vivastory the absurdism & satirical humor. I have read Hernandez's Crocodile previously & it remains one of my favorite stories of all time. A concert pianist/traveling stocking salesman realizes that his propensity for spontaneously weeping helps boost his sales. It's like Kids in the Hall meets GG Marquez. Good stuff. 2y
