In the South Yorkshire market town of Bromersley, Detective Inspector Michael Angel and his team have a seemingly impossible case to solve. They are faced with the unusual situation of knowing the name of a serial killer, and the place where he is employed, but are unable to recognize him a cosmetic surgeon has given him a new face. There seems to be nobody alive who can identify him. Additionally, Mrs Buller-Price, an elderly widow and friend of Angel, who lives at The Monks Retreat, reports that she has seen monks returning to her house to sail on her private lake in the middle of the night."
