Though set in the wintry Appalachian Mountains of Blue Cliff, VA, this makes for a great summer spooky thriller! Told in two perspectives, Cheyenne returns to her insular hometown to care for her mother in the wake of her upset over a young boy going missing— a dark history that has repeated over hundreds of years in the town. Natalie also from Blue Cliff, but believes in the justice system & wants the real Hickory Man to pay. Fast & creepy read!

TorieStorieS @Aims42 Thank you! Having woods in your backyard comes in handy for photos— and adds to the spookiness when you read outside at night!! 😬 2y
Aims42 @TorieStorieS LOL, I bet!! 🫣😬 2y

TorieStorieS @Aims42 An opossum gave me a bit of a scare last night while reading, as a matter of fact! 🤣 2y
Aims42 @TorieStorieS YIKES!! 😳 Those are terrifying looking during the day, let alone at night when it‘s dark lol I hope he was just passing through 2y
TorieStorieS @Aims42 He was just noisily making his way across the back woods— we have a pretty serious spotlight flashlight so I was mostly just relieved it wasn‘t something bigger! He sure wasn‘t being stealthy with the noise he made!!🤣 2y
Aims42 @TorieStorieS Hahaha! He sounds like he was just looking for some friends to hang out with 🤣 Maybe he‘s looking to join a book club? I‘m glad it wasn‘t something bigger either! Our backyard just sees birds and some acrobatic squirrels, and I hope it stays that way 🐿️🌰🌳 (edited) 2y
TorieStorieS @Aims42 We have a wide variety of wildlife- and some coyotes that look pretty massive, though the deer are probably the biggest things we see regularly! And I would let any of them join in on the reading fun- so long as they promise to get along and be kind to my dog! He‘s a good size, but we still don‘t let him out on his own— just in case! 2y
Aims42 @TorieStorieS Wow!! That is a lot of wildlife, how cool 🤩 Lol, that sounds like the best book club, I‘d join too (and would be very kind to your dog too. Pinkie promise 😍) 2y
TorieStorieS @aims42 Come join me and the creatures of Hawthorn Woods any time! 🥰 2y

THE WOODS ARE WAITING

This book had great promise for me but unfortunately it just fell short. It starts out great but fairly quickly loses something. I think maybe it's the personal effect. It just did not ever capture my attention like I usually enjoy. The main characters were a bit drab and unlikable. That is my opinion.

This is a great creepy debut novel about The Hickory Man who supposedly lures children into the woods and kills them. When Chey returns home to take care of her elderly mother, she is immediately drawn back into the terror and drama that grips the small town. Awesome psychological thriller!
