#TopReads2025 for April belongs to the one and only Vera Wong ☕️🫖🔎 “Vera Wong‘s Guide to Snooping (On A Dead Man)” was fun and while on a bit darker side compared to her first book, still the same old, fabulous Vera! I hope we haven‘t seen the last of her!

nanuska_153 Do you know if that Tartufo is a retelling or related at all to Moliere's play? 1w
Aims42 @nanuska_153 I just did a super quick search on Moliere‘s play Tartuffe and I don‘t think it‘s related at all. Sorry about that 🫤 The book was really funny though if you‘re into wacky characters lol (edited) 1w
nanuska_153 @Aims42 oh of course, it's Tartufo like the mushroom. In Spanish they are called the same. Well if it's funny and with wacky characters it does have things in common with Molière 😅 Looks good, will check out if the library has it. Thanks! 1w

My conquest from visiting my indie bookstore today 😄 Even though I get overwhelmed with crowds, I did it. I parked far enough away to avoid getting stressed and walked, which was fabulous since it‘s sunny out today and not terribly cold! Okay. This bail is 100% on me. I really wanted this to be a book version of the History Channel‘s “Food that Built America” show. This is not like that. Family drama, oh yes. This was a book I wouldn‘t have picked up had it not been my bookclub‘s next read. I even told my husband a few pages into it, “this is just really weird” 😂. I did end up liking it though, I thought the characters were fully formed and felt ‘real‘ and Whittaker‘s writing flows really nicely. So many good quotes too! #TopReads2025 continues with my March pick 🥁🥁🥁 “Expect Great Things!” was an interesting read! I‘ve heard of the Katharine Gibbs School from pretty much every book I‘ve read that takes place in NYC during the early to mid century and to learn more about it was fascinating!! Plus, Katharine grew up in Galena, IL which is about a 2.5 hour drive from me. I love visiting it, it‘s such a charming town. So it did get some bonus points for that 😉👍

Today is the last day in March, which in the USA is Women‘s History month. I was fortunate to read 4 amazing books during this month with strong female voices. The two non-fiction books (right side) left me thinking, “Hellz yeah, women can do ANYTHING!”. The two historical fiction books (left side) are based on true women & events, and the ‘Author Note‘ in both books are riveting and shouldn‘t be missed. I highly recommend them all ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was SO GOOD! I love reading a historical fiction book that makes me fall down a rabbit hole of needing to find out more. And nobody writes a multiple POV plot quite like Brianna Labuskes, in my opinion. We‘re introduced to Millie, Alice and Colette and how these brave, complicated women impacted not just their community BUT the whole state of Montana!

Aims42 Themes: Historical Fiction, The Great Depression, Book about Books. For even more info on the real-life “Boxcar Library”:

Of course I checked to see if my library hold was available before taking my lunch, and it wasn‘t. I check now (with no time left to go get it because I‘m my own worst enemy) and yep, now it‘s available
🤪🫠 Hurry up, 5:00!!!

Hooked_on_books A couple times, I‘ve picked up holds then had my other hold come available later the same day. Arg! The frustrations of a bookworm! 2mo
Aims42 @Hooked_on_books Oh no!! That would be sooooo frustrating 😖 2mo
Susanita I once arrived at the library 2 minutes before closing and went running inside just in time to get my hold. 2mo
Aims42 @Susanita 🤣🤣🤣 I would‘ve run too! You don‘t get between a reader and their library hold 🏃🏼‍♀️ 2mo

Is it possible to get whiplash from a book? I went in thinking (based solely on the cover and summary) that this was going to be a fluffy, “behind the scenes of Hollywood” type book. And while it was the latter, it is most definitely not fluffy. There is real, raw emotion with all of the characters, and they‘re so well formed that I was trying to match them to a real celebrity. I‘m looking forward to my bookclub‘s discussion on this.

Suet624 I‘ve been meaning to read this for ages. 2mo
Aims42 @Suet624 Same! I was relieved when it was picked for our March read because then I had no excuse to keep pushing it down my TBR pile lol 2mo

This was such a creative, fun read! There were a few passages that transitioned kinda rough; I‘m not sure if that‘s a result of it being translated or if that was intentional. All in all, a fun read and I can‘t wait for Book 2 to publish later this spring!! ***CORRECTED AFTER POSTING*** Pictured here are some of the main characters: Othello, Miss Maple, the flock consisting of Heather, Maude, Zora, and finally Mopple the Whale.

Aims42 Themes: Murder Mystery, Sheep Detectives, Picturesque Irish landscapes 2mo

#TopReads2025 continues with my February pick 🥁🥁🥁 ‘Tartufo‘ 🙌 I didn‘t have any expectations going in besides the author of ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures‘ recommended it on her Instagram stories and gave a cover blurb. It was very quirky and fun and had some real heartwarming moments too. Don‘t read it if your hungry though, her descriptions of pasta will make your mouth water 🤤🍝

Bailedbailed

Based on what @TEArificbooks said in their review, I went into this with low expectations. I was just looking for a fluffy, non-challenging read, and I still bailed 😑 I agree with Melanie 100%, the trivia bits were fun but there wasn‘t a single character I cared about. I love this premise, but I feel like Clare Pooley or Freya Sampson could‘ve done it better. Definitely check out their books for great characters and a fun plot! #Hailthebail 🚀
