Nancy Hale should have never been out of the literary spotlight. Thank you, Library of America, for making this phenomenal novel available again!

Pickpick

A 1942 bestseller that's being republished in May. An ambitious saga about three young women and their search for love, acceptance, and success. At 800+ pages, it's ridiculously long, and yet, it kept my attention. I grew to respect Hale for believing the experiences of women deserve such serious treatment. Set in the 1920s & 30s, but not much has changed. Men can be brutes, women's sexuality is punished, and every choice comes at a cost.👇

merelybookish All the women are complicated and whether any of them get a happy ending is up for debate. I especially enjoyed some of the NYC scenes where one character goes to work. A pick (in spite of the length.) #netgalley 2y

Currently reading reading this 1942 novel set to be republished this spring. It's 842 pages long.
It's pretty good, but not sure it's 842-pages-long good. 🤨
Has anyone read it? Apparently it was a big hit back in the day.

batsy This is the first I've heard of it and I'm interested! However the older I get the sadder I feel when I see a page count like that 😂 2y
sarahbarnes I‘ve never heard of it! But that is quite long for a book that‘s just pretty good. 😬 2y
merelybookish @batsy No kidding. I could read 3 or 4 books in the time it takes to read this one. 2y
merelybookish @sarahbarnes I haven't resorted to skimming yet so I guess it's keeping my interest. 2y
