Welcome to Juliet, Saskatchewan. A blink and you'll miss it kind of town where nothing much happens, until one day ... secrets are revealed, marriages tested and a life ended. Juliet, Saskatchewan, is a blink of an eye kind of town - the welcome sign announces a population of 1,011 people - and it's easy to imagine that nothing happens on its hot and dusty streets. Situated on the edge of the Little Snake sand hills, Juliet and its inhabitants are caught in limbo between a century - old promise of prosperity and whatever lies ahead. But the heart of the town beats in the rich and overlapping stories of its people: the foundling who now owns the farm his adoptive family left him; the pregnant teenager and her mother, planning a fairytale wedding; a shy couple, well beyond middle age, struggling with the recognition of their feelings for one another; a camel named Antoinette; and the ubiquitous wind and sand that forever shift the landscape. Their stories bring the prairie desert and the town of Juliet to vivid and enduring life. This wonderfully entertaining, heart - warming, witty and deeply felt novel brims with forgiveness as its flawed people stumble towards the future.

The characters in this book about a small town in Saskatchewan seem like people you've met or would like to. The vignettes roll slowly into each other quietly and perfectly.

Babs_book_obsession I have heard it is a good audiobook. In Canada the book is called Cool Water. 7y

Many of the chapters of this novel read so much like self contained short stories, that I thought it was indeed an interconnected collection until I went back and read the summary again. It's all character & place exploration of a small community in Saskatchewan, not much plot to speak of, and contains some beautiful writing. It is right in my wheelhouse. I'll be checking out more!

Quiet short studies of character & place, which is right up my alley. They are interconnected short stories that present as a microcosm of rural Saskatchewan, Canada. I'm enjoying every minute of listening during my long dog walks. I'm definitely seeking out Dianne's other works.

Cool Water is a lovely book written from the perspective of various residents of the fictional prairie town of Julliet, Saskatchewan. Dianne Warren does a fine job of capturing the rhythm and mood of small town life. Every character in this novel feels familiar to me as does the setting--the oft mentioned metropolis of Swift Current is only an hour away from where I live ➡️ review on Goodreads https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7811046-cool-water

Taking a short break from Flavia. Book group meets Wednesday and this is our choice for October. I finally got around to borrowing it from a friend today. Twenty-nine pages in, I think I'm in love.
