This was a bit of a departure from Cobb‘s usual style of writing about catty friends, who aren‘t friends… let's say her characters tend to put the enemy in the word frenemy. While this did have some drama it wasn‘t necessarily over the top like it can be in her books. Told in alternating timelines between her mother and her…she has come back to figure out what happened to her mother, one way or another, even if it kills her…

I had wrote everything that bothered me about this book, but it boiled down to this: I didn‘t enjoy Kira as a character; I found her immature & oblivious. I didn‘t like the pages of detail about things that interrupt the plot & led nowhere. I found it odd that she harbored such a strong crush on a man she hadn‘t seen or spoken to in years. &the ending was ridiculous. However, I do think the bones of a story were there &would try this author again.

5feet.of.fury I read My Summer Darlings by her and it was pretty bad also 1y
Kristy_K @5feet.of.fury That‘s good to know! I thought she might be a new(er) author, but this is her fifth book, so I may end up steering clear. 1y
5feet.of.fury @Kristy_K I had some of the same issues with Summer Darlings that you had here. Unlikable, immature characters. I bought Hunting Wives so… idk how that‘s going to go, but I‘m trying 1 more 1y
