Freezing here in Tampa. It‘s a blanket evening for sure!

Such a sad book from someone who really had everything until her dad died. The beginning of the book felt a little manic, probably because it was Lisa Marie‘s real words. It was kinda all over the place and made more sense when Riley became more of the narrative. I was surprised about her relationship with Michael Jackson. I really thought at the time that it some weird PR stunt. Overall enjoyed the book but man, what a tragedy.
Started this one on my lunch hour
Hard to read due to trigger warnings, but a very satisfying ending
Just finished this audiobook but it‘s also on Kindle Unlimited. A short novella (it‘s not listed on Litsy)
I see why this book had so much buzz and hit a lot of favorites list in 2024. If you pick it up and think it‘s too long for me (almost 600 pages) just know that it‘s a fast read with short chapters and worth every.single.page. It‘s a mystery, but so much more. It‘s really about friendship that turns into family and what you will do to help someone you love.
Clare and Marisa are twins who couldn‘t be more different. When they are in high school, Clare goes to a party and doesn‘t come home. This haunts Marisa as she grows up and on her 30th bday decides that she is ready to dig in to what happened to her sister. As she asks the people closest to her about that night, she realizes that they are all@lying about something.
What if the smartest high schoolers in the world don't go to college but get sold to the highest bidder? Their parents get millions of dollars and the teenager gets groomed to be the next "X". This makes for a WEIRD book, as Palahniuk tends to write, as you really don't know what's going to happen when you turn the page. I also didn't "get" a lot of the book, as I don't take LSD & it will also win an award for writing the word "avocado" A LOT
My #Top9 reads for 2024❤️❤️❤️
Not going to hit my reading goal this year. Not even close. My father in law passed away in May on Mother‘s Day. My mom had end stage dementia from June until August and I was with her during that time in the hospital, nursing home and hospice. I haven‘t been able to read or focus since she passed, but it‘s getting better. I‘m going to celebrate the end of 2024!
A woman has a heart transplant and she meets the donor‘s husband a year later. She begins to have feelings for him, but what happened to the wife to make her heart available?
I had no idea what I was reading until I was about a 1/3 of the way in. There were a lot of characters and didn‘t really understand the premise of this novel. I thought I was reading a thriller, but it‘s more sci-fi which isn‘t my favorite genre. Basically, a fog destroys the world and a bunch of scientists bunkered down on an island and a few were considered “elders” to help the rest of the village.
The sequel to KILLERS OF A CERTAIN AGE, this books starts about a year later when the 4 Golden Girls of assassinations come out of retirement to finish another job. A job that has ties to their first job when they killed a gangster on a plane. Someone in their organization is a mole and they need to find out who it is before they gets killed themselves.
I have an ARC of the sequel to KILLERS OF A CERTAIN AGE❤️❤️❤️
Thank you, Misty for my card! I have such a heart for the Grinch (I FEEL him..lol). Hope you are doing okay during this tough season. Praying for you and your family. @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks #litsylove
Do you ever read a few books that have a theme but it was by accident? I‘ve read a lot of stolen art plots this year 🤷♀️
Starting this one and it‘s a cross between historical fiction and modern day mystery.
True stories from law enforcement about what they go through, including the mental health toll on them.
I love a locked room mystery (or in this case, an island with no escape) where you don‘t know who is lying and who is telling the truth. A bunch of college friends get together to celebrate an engagement but their past is coming to the island too. A friend of theirs was murdered in college, and now all these lies these folks have been telling are going to come out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This month‘s Reese Book Club pick.
☑️ dark academia set at Princeton
☑️ murder
☑️ secrets and lies
First page ❤️
Non fiction about “cults” (really, cultish behavior) in America. Why are we fascinated by them, why do people buy-in to them (sometimes literally, looking at you, Amway) and how do we spot one? Author covers religious cults but mostly social cults like multi-level marketing, influencers, fitness (SoulCycle, CrossFit), etc. She has strong opinions about politics though, and that makes me give this ⭐️⭐️1/2 stars. (Sick of politics)
I started reading this after work yesterday and cannot out it down. It is so creepy. One of those books that you can feel your breathing get faster as you read and can barely wait to turn the page.
As the follow up to These Still Black Waters, McDonald writes a fast-paced thriller about a family gone missing after a car accident - except for their teenager daughter. Alice woke up after the accident on the side of the road, van turned over, smoke coming out of the engine but her parents and little sister are nowhere to be found. Are they still alive?
This book is fantastic. One of my favorite Patterson books. A famous crime writer comes home to find her husband murdered. The cop that catches the case has been disparaged in her latest book. He‘s being investigated by Internal Affairs because of her book, so how are they connected? This truly is a twisty thriller that I couldn‘t put down.
I can‘t remember which #Litsylove friend recommended this to me, but I‘m excited to dive in since I grew up near Tallahassee and worked here for years.
Non-fiction written by Pastor Allen Jackson. A guidebook on how we can prepare our hearts during uncertain times and use scripture as guidance for living in a world that seems further away from biblical principals each passing day.
Been on my nightstand for a while. Just started it, but it is already creepy as crap
I didn‘t read any blurb before diving in and that probably made this book a lot better. I wasn‘t sure if this was a ghost story or a serial killer read, but when you are a family vacationing on a remote island, you know it‘s gonna be good. Perfect for October
Olivia gets the opportunity to take a once in a lifetime cruise to Antarctica with her boyfriend, Aaron. The ship leaves port and her boyfriend is nowhere to be found. As Olivia spends more time on the cruise ship, she realizes that she may be in danger.
Evacuated Tampa last night and hunkered down at my dad‘s in Georgia. Plan on reading more and staying off social media today. My anxiety is through the roof
Did some reading this morning until the news of another hurricane hit my newsfeed. Went and got our sandbags early to avoid the lines and will make our plan tomorrow 🫣
This book is terrifying. Something has turned people against each other, “the affected” are murdering their friends, family and anyone they see. Dee, Jack and their two kids are on the run from New Mexico to Canada to see if there is freedom from the affected. How far do you go and what are you willing to do when you are running for your life? I read this in one sitting.
Jade is a very well-kept Buckhead housewife and her husband Cam is a super star chef with multiple restaurants in Atlanta. As she is taking her kids home after school, someone is in her house, and he holds them hostage. I really thought this book would not hold many surprises for me, y'know, bad husband does bad things and family has to pay for his stupid mistakes. BUT, this novel had some tricks up it's sleeve and surprised me in some good ways
Three girlfriends head to the Hamptons for the weekend, but as they are looking for a place to park, a couple steal their coveted spot. After a few drinks they decide to leave a note on the car - “He‘s cheating, he always does””. At the time they think it‘s a harmless prank but realize that it has caused much trouble than they realized.
Waiting on Hurricane Helene to get here (Tampa) and trying to get my mind off all my family in Georgia that will be hit hard by this storm. This book is weird but I can‘t look away.
I've never been to NYC, but I love gossipy memoirs with all the dirt on things that happen "behind the curtain". The author has been in the restaurant business for over 30 years and talks about the things he has experienced as a server, manager, maître d'hotel, and observer of the folks that dine in these type of places. There is a lot of crazy stories from the 80's (I mean, it's NYC, so you can imagine that these aren't for the faint of heart)
Watching Georgia football and reading between plays..😂
Man, this book. It‘s a true but fictionalized version of one Chi O that was the President of the sorority when Ted Bundy murdered her sisters at FSU. We see everything happen through her eyes but mostly we see how she is affected for the rest of her life. I loved how Knoll never calls him by his name until the last chapter, because she isn‘t going to romanticize Bundy as some Kennedy-esque killer
Several couples are competitions in a reality show to find the “perfect couple”. They are off to a deserted island when soon after a terrible storm happens. Cut off from everything, the couples have to figure out how to survive ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Enjoyed this one - a great series💙
I loved THE WOMAN IN THE LIBRARY, so I can‘t wait to finish this one!
