Struggling author Lowen gets an offer to ghostwrite for famous Verity Crawford after an accident leaves her incapacitated. She falls for Verity‘s husband &discovers more about the family‘s tragic history. Lowen reads Verity‘s works, she comes across an autobiography. is it paranoia or is the truth stranger than fiction?
I thought K Slaughter had prepared me for all things but I was wrong. Twisted af esp for someone who writes romance. Wtf ending.

I got this as a gift (book &🌮🧦) from someone I don‘t see often &we‘re not friends on socials -but it was just perfect..& he said “ya, do you like witch stuff?” And I was like 🤔 “I mean, yes, but also cuz it‘s Buffy” which he didn‘t seem to know?? maybe the cover called to him. It‘s a great cover.

& an ok story, Willow takes a walkabout. No scoobies. it‘s from the Reboot where I have no idea what is the plot, but it was good to see Willow.

Wow! What a life! The early chapters recount her time as a “Virgin Groupie” and a Vegas Show Girl and those alone are iconic. I hated hearing about the projects that fell through because I bet they would have been awesome. Cassandra Petersen herself is very humble and unproblematic. Content Warning: stories of Child abuse, sexual assault, suicidal ideation pop up here and there. Highly recommend audio especially, because I love the voices she does

A trio of friends, Ronke, Boo & Simi, with varied goals and personalities are upended when a friend from Simi‘s past gets added to the mix. They are enjoying the glamour that Isobel brings but it becomes clear that she likes to stir the pot. She is a pot stirrer. As the group becomes divided, they find themselves entwined in unexpected ways.

Super addictive. Unique story with a rich Anglo-Nigerian backdrop. & it will be adapted for TV this year.

I forget Nick Offerman is this man and not Ron Swanson. I feel badly that I did not enjoy this more, I enjoy Offerman & I agree with his politics & his adventures were neat.

I think that some of the tangents might work better in audio format. Also there was less “walking outside” than anticipated.

He references events(election, COVID, 1/6/21) but the whole point in me reading a book is to escape👏from👏this👏reality👏.Not what I was looking for.

I finished this today while working on my art/reading nook!

This was a fun listen. Trinity Jordan is recovering from a trauma & lives in a futuristic apartment complex. She‘s leading a quiet life, at the moment. Her neighbor suffers an emergency, & Trinity looks in on the neighbor‘s houseguest who she‘s told is recovering from a head injury himself. However she finds there is another cause of his odd behavior. 🤖

Very informative, but dry. Does not speak much of application of Stoicism to modern society-
one quote references “spending too much time emptying one‘s bowels” along with too much drinking or copulating.

Also many essentially state, “if someone disagrees with you, who cares they‘ll be dead soon”
This is meant for you to ponder the expanse of time, and seek only you own validation. I did not find it inspiring.

Structure of the book was good.

I really enjoyed this. I used to be really into celebrity gossip in Perez‘s peak. Here in the #freebritney era that‘s not that cool anymore, but picturing Perez working on his laptop at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Nicole Richie coming in to cuss him out brings me joy. He does show some remorse and regret for the bridges he burned. He presents himself as somewhat oblivious to the power he has holding. I don‘t know about that, but it was not boring.

WJCintron Thanks for sharing! There's always gossip 🙄 and most of the time all of it isn't true. 😞 Unfortunately when you are in the public eye, you can't escape it. Then, when they die, they are posting how much they loved them and that they'll be missed. C'mmon! 😤
This world needs more humanity! 🙏 Rright?
3w
5feet.of.fury @WJCintron it‘s true! He has a turning point he addresses in the book and someone brings up to him how he outed Clay Aiken …dude must have known that was wrong. Or how he was good friends with Amanda Bynes but burned bridges because “he had to report on her”. No. Didn‘t “have to” not really. 3w

Last book of #wintergames2021 was a full out therapy session. The first chapters start of as graphic as any K Slaughter novel, then moves in to a wonderful agnostic view of the afterlife and a case study on how people deal with grief and loss. It‘s a lot, and you‘re always wanting more for everyone. Frustrating. Realistic. Haunting. A perspective on serial killers tales, even almost 20 yrs since it‘s publish, that‘s quite unique.

OriginalCyn620 I read this a few months ago and felt the same exact way. Great book! 3w
HollyBolly I think I would have liked this book if not for one scene where the protagonist takes over a girl's body and has sex with someone while in it. I couldn't help but see this as a form of rape. Please let me know if I interpreted it wrong, but that just made me feel gross. 3w
5feet.of.fury @hollybolly Do you feel that Ruth would be the victim as the inhabited or Ray? Susie told Ray it was her. Susie and Ruth had a unique bond (even at the beginning of the book Ruth kisses ray and tell him to pretend it‘s Susie), I did have a moment of similar thinking to yours -especially, but not exclusively- due to Ruth is a lesbian (?)Ruth consented to the swap from the way it is written which doesn‘t mean she consented to sex. But I feel shes ok 3w
See All 9 Comments
HollyBolly More Ruth. I think that if the author included a brief conversation between Susie and Ruth, it would have been easier for me to swallow. It was so long ago that I read it though that I just remember feeling gross and seeing it as inappropriate for Ruth's body. I don't remember if Ruth and Susie ever talked at all. 3w
5feet.of.fury @HollyBolly understandable. Yeah idk if Ruth would have known what Susie would do with her body and it‘s not addressed if she had feelings about it. They actual only had one conversation, they barely knew each other in life. 3w
HollyBolly @5feet.of.fury Yeah. I feel like I would have enjoyed it otherwise especially if I read it now. Do you know if the movie was any better? 3w
5feet.of.fury @HollyBolly I haven‘t seen it unfortunately. The reviews seemed as mixed as the reviews for the book. 3w
HollyBolly @5feet.of.fury Yeah. It seems to be one that those that you either love or hate. 3w

PuddleJumper That is quite the contrast! 3w
tokorowilliamwallace This means they should inform each other well, and make for some unique gleaned perspective, on your part! Looking forward to your comments on the book on Stoicism. I was recommended the school/methodology of philosophy from a girl I highly respected and who was on point in her understanding of me and her other recommendation for me in the Polish poetess, Wislawa Szymborska. Apt and very sentimentally impactful at the time---serendipitous timing. 3w
5feet.of.fury @tokorowilliamwallace I‘m starting it today, so we shall see. I recommend Ryan Holiday‘s books if you are looking for material on stoicism in general! I read Obstacle is the Way last year and it was very informative but easily digestible. 3w

Listening to this today, before the diet culture inundation that January brings.

I was trying decide if I was internalizing things or if this book was just not for me. The start was more showmanship than substance.

2 hours in, we are on the same page as she explains that it is ok to want to change and express yourself a certain way. The key is examining if these changes enrich your life or if it‘s an external message and who stands to benefit.

Karisa I heard her on a Brene Brown podcast and felt like that too. Somethings I was nodding along with but other things she said left me scratching my head. She‘s interesting for sure! 3w
5feet.of.fury @Karisa the first chapter she said something about “no one is born hating their body, as an infant your amazed by every movement” like, wait as a baby I couldn‘t think outside of myself, and also babies are fussy af about what their bodies can and can‘t do 3w

I don‘t typically do cozy mysteries but this was delightful.

Holly White‘s engagement falls through but she has a warm homecoming returning to Mistletoe, ME. Until one of the locals turn up murdered at her parents‘ Christmastree Farm.

She alternates searching for clues, serving hot chocolate and playing “reindeer games”, but finds more than she asked Santa for.

🎧 narration was great but the Boston accent was more of a New Jersey thing 🤣

The case, story, events in and of themselves are very interesting. The book details the investigation and what a terrible human the killer is in a compelling way. But I feel it was “too little too late” for the attention the book gave to the victim and her family. Pictured here is Tara Grant who deserved better.

So - It took until this far in the book to have a insight of who Tara Grant was from a perspective other than her awful (murderer) husband‘s. For the first 75% of the book we have only his tainted opinion that she was inattentive, cold, a workaholic, an absent mother, a b-word. Still tragic even if she were all those things, but it does her a disservice to wait this long to briefly add the perspective of who she was from her family and friends.
