A once-beloved television sleuth finds herself far from Hollywood and witness to a murder during a small-town theatre productionand is convinced its up to her to solve the case. Introducing a new comedic crime series from the bestselling Ferguson brothers, for fans of Richard Osmans The Thursday Murder Club, Alexander McCall Smiths 44 Scotland Street series and Schitts Creek Miranda Abbott, once known for the crime-solving, karate-chopping church pastor she played on network television, has hit hard times. Turned down for a role on a cable reality show, Miranda is facing ruin when a mysterious postcard arrives, summoning her to Happy Rock, a small town in the Pacific Northwest. But when she gets there, nothing is what she expected. In dire straits, she signs up for an amateur production at the Happy Rock Little Theatre, competing against the local real estate agent for the lead role. On opening night, one of the actors is murdered, live, in front of the audience. But out of 100 witnesses, no one actually saw what happened. Now everyone is under a cloud of suspicion, including the sardonic town doctor, the local high-school drama teacher, an oil-stained car mechanic, an elderly gentleman who may or may not have been in the CIAand Miranda herself. Clearly, the only way to solve this mystery is for Miranda to summon her skills as televisions Pastor Fran and draw on the help of her new sidekick, Susan, a shy bookstore clerk who seems to know everyones secrets. Because the show must go on!

Jumped into one of my #trappedinaspookyhouse books a bit early.

Happy to have this one off my shelf. It was a perfectly fine story with the humour you expect from the Ferguson brothers but it wasn‘t enough for me to keep going with the series.

This was cute, maybe a little too cute, and a quick and easy read. Enjoyable enough in places, it also felt like a send-up of the cozy mystery, while exploiting the same to further itself, if that makes sense? I 100% do not buy that the self-absorbed, twee and selfish FMC would suddenly twig to the murderer, either. Not sure I‘d bother continuing with the series.

In the words of the Deedles, this one was so diculous it was re-diculous. But it knows it and thoroughly enjoys its own ridiculousness, so I couldn't help but have fun with it, too.

Total palate cleanser read!

This read like it was trying to be Schitts Creek-y. While the characters were largely endearing, I wasn‘t sold on the mystery.

This is a cozy mystery set in the world of small town theatre and a bookstore. It features Miranda, who played a crime solving pastor in a hit TV series years ago. Now broke, she still thinks of herself as an entitled star. After receiving a mysterious post card, she ends up faced with a real murder to solve. I really enjoyed this humorous book and all the quirky characters and look forward to more in the series. It was delightful fun! 4.25
